William E. (Bill) Lockhart

William E. "Bill" Lockhart was born on April 26, 1943, in Alpine, Texas to Dr. William E. and Lora Bell Kunze Lockhart. He died July 3, 2007, in a Waco hospital.

Bill graduated from Alpine High School in 1961 and attended Sul Ross University and the University of Texas at Austin, receiving an MA in Political Science and an MA in Biochemistry. He was a licensed Nutritionist.

Bill served his country at the Ft. Buckner Army Post Office, Okinawa, from 1966 to 1968. He then taught political science and nutrition at Austin Community College for many years and was lead nutritionist for a Women, Infants and Children (WIC) clinic in East Texas during the 1980s.

He was a compassionate, loving Christian, forever forgiving and seeking the good in others. He had many life-long friends with whom he stayed in touch over the years. He loved learning and computing and was a body builder and health advocate.

Bill's funeral service was held at the First Presbyterian Church in Alpine, TX, and he was buried in the Elm Grove Cemetery there.

Mary Bell Lockhart, his sister, tells the following: He was the grandson of Fannie Lee McCutcheon b 5 Nov 1882 in Coleman Co, TX and William Edgar Lockhart b 1 Apr 1882 in Llano Co, TX. He was buried in Elm Grove Cemetery with military honors in Block 3A, Lot 12 Place 4, next to his other grandparents Gustave and Maude Kunze. Because he enjoyed so much his Scottish heritage, we had a bagpiper (and a friend of the family) play for his funeral and graveside service. Then a week later, we saw "our" bagpiper leading the procession for Lady Bird Johnson in Austin. Bill would have been happy to have known that as he was an admirer of Lady Bird too.
